The Church has tasked Missio with awakening and nurturing a sense of mission in every Catholic around the world. Our baptism means that we are all called to be missionaries. But we couldn’t do it without our amazing volunteers!
In his Catechesis for the General Audience, 26 March 2025, Pope Francis told us, ‘mission springs precisely from the experience of feeling loved’.
And having recognised God’s love in our lives we want to share it with others, enabling them to experience God’s loving presence in turn. We are called to share it with those we encounter: our friends, family, colleagues and neighbours, as well as those we may never meet.
Making mission happen – together!
In England and Wales our network of over 7,000 volunteers tirelessly promotes mission, enabling so many people here to support missionaries worldwide.
An important part of nurturing this missionary spirit is through the five-yearly appeals in parishes, made by Mill Hill Missionaries, and the regular Mission Masses, we hold across England and Wales. They are opportunities for us to thank our tireless volunteers and supporters, and for you to meet and be inspired by missionaries, to pray together and to hear about how our support makes a difference to our global Church family.
Rita, pictured above with Fr Anthony, is a Red Box volunteer in the diocese of Arundel and Brighton. She attended a Mission Mass last October in London. She said:
‘I’ve been inspired by the beauty of what I experienced. To see and hear from such devoted missionaries has made me want to go and continue in my role as Secretary with enthusiasm!’
Our amazing volunteers!
All year round, but especially during volunteers week, we want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all the incredible people who make mission possible. Watch our new film to hear from volunteers and our missionary network on this special week!
