We have received news that Brother Huub MHM has been abducted whilst travelling from Bamenda in Cameroon. Br Huub and his assistant, Mr Henry Kang, were snatched as they reached the town of Bambui. They were on their way to visit a classroom building project in Ilung. We ask for your prayers for their safe return.
On the morning of Tuesday 1 April, Br Huub and Henry Kang, a lay missionary and family man  from the parish, set out from Bamenda to Ilung, where they are building classrooms for underprivileged children.  But just 20km away, in a town called Bambui, their journey was brutally interrupted. They were abducted by unknown armed men, and as of now, no one knows where they are.
Brother Huub and Henry
Br Huub is 83 years old. We believe he is being held captive, deep in the bush. Br Huub is not in good health; he has already endured multiple joint replacements, a back operation, and now, on top of all that, the cruel mental and emotional suffering of being held hostage by those he only ever wanted to help.
Meanwhile, Henry Kang’s wife and children have an agonising wait as they pray for his safe return. He has been committed to helping Br Huub and making his vision of the new school a reality.
‘A Servant of Love’
Fr Fons MHM, who shared the news, said of Br Huub:
‘He has given everything, his time, his energy, his very being, to serve the people he loves. And yet, today, he finds himself tormented by the very ones he has spent a lifetime caring for. At his age, he should be at home, resting, surrounded by the warmth of cherished memories from his decades of selfless service. Instead, he chose to stay; because his heart simply wouldn’t allow him to walk away from those in need.’
As yet, there has been no word of their release. Fr Fons shares:
‘Our hearts are heavy. Our souls are restless. But we will not give up hope. We pray. We plead. We wait. And we ask you to do the same. May they be released soon. May they come home to those who love them. And may this darkness give way to light.’
Please join us in praying for the swift and safe return of Br Huub and Henry.
