This summer, why not try some of our suggestions for activities to do as a family, a community, or as a personal journey? We take some of our favourite activities and suggest ways to tailor them to suit your summer season.
Summer is always a wonderful time for a pilgrimage, but this Jubilee year is an even stronger call to spend time walking with God. There are countless options for planning your pilgrimage – here are some suggestions.
Make it…
… Active
Pilgrimages come in many lengths and formats – from months on the march to half a day’s gentle walk. The important thing is to pick one which works for you, allowing you to connect with God and bring your mind to your faith journey as you walk. Find all our pilgrim routes and suggestions at missio.org.uk/walk
… Social
Walking with others in faith is a beautiful – and very key – part of pilgrimage. Any pilgrim route can be shared with others. In addition, we’ve developed our Emmaus Walk guide to help parishes and groups plan their own prayer walks and pilgrimages. Download the guide and special waymarker prayers here>>
… Prayerful
Not everyone is in a position to take part in a physical pilgrimage. If this applies to you but you would still like to create a spiritual journey, why not plan a virtual pilgrimage? Plot a route and look up videos, virtual tours, or guidebooks of the important places along the way. Use each landmark as a prompt for prayer. You could also choose to follow in the path of a Saint who travelled, or a missionary who is currently serving today. Read about Mill Hill Missionary, Fr Michael’s journey and see what you can discover about the places and communities he has been to. Please pray for missionaries and the communities they serve.
Help us ignite God’s love around the world
Pilgrim walks are primarily a journey of prayer. However, using your walk to accompany God’s global family is a beautiful dimension to add to your pilgrimage, and every penny and pound you share with Missio helps to ignite God’s love around the world.
If you would like to fundraise during your walk, thank you so much! The easiest way would be to set up a JustGiving page, or contact us for further help.
