In July, we pray with Pope Francis that the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick may grant the Lord’s strength to those who receive it and to their loved ones, and that it may become for everyone an ever more visible sign of compassion and hope.

‘The Priest and those who are present during the Anointing of the Sick represent the entire Christian community that, as one body, embraces the one who suffers and their family, nurturing their faith and hope, and supporting them through their prayers and compassion.’ – Pope Francis

Our Focus for July:

For England and Wales, the school holidays are almost here, and for all of us the longer days of summer lie ahead! While the long summer can present challenges, it’s a wonderful opportunity to encourage togetherness in Christ and nurture a missionary spirit in younger members of the family. This month, why not:

  • Look out for opportunities to help those who are sick or lonely in your parish or community. Who would benefit from a visit or a kind note, or even some practical help such as a grocery shop or a lift to the doctor’s?
  • If you have little ones to entertain – especially on the rainier days (they’re going to happen sometime!), a trip to the library or bookshop is always a great idea. Our Mission Together Words for Our World resource invites children to journey through our global home by reading books based within each of the Mission Rosary continents (Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe, and Oceania). Make use of our book suggestions and let children travel the world in their own home!
  • Help Missio bring care to those who are sick through missionaries, Priests, and Sisters in mission dioceses. A donation to where the need is greatest helps parishes, like Ilung in Cameroon, care for their sick sisters and brothers in difficult circumstances.
  • Fundraise – whether with a sponsored walk, run or bike ride, or a fun parish family barbecue or fair! Help raise funds for God’s global Church this summer – don’t forget to use all our free fundraising resources, which you can download here>>
  • Pray together – our popular prayer prompts provide scripture and questions to get you and your family focusing on your spiritual life. Find the free download, along with suggestions on how to use them here>>
